Jan. 4, 1951 - April 12, 2010SOUTH BEND - In the early morning hours of 2:13 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2010, Audrey K. Scruggs made her departure from this earthly life at Hospice House of St. Joseph County. Au-drey, who resided on North Olive Street, South Bend, Indiana, was 59. On January 4, 1951, in South Bend, she was born to her parents, the late Al-bert and Louise (Battle) Foster. As a lifetime area resident, Audrey was educated in South Bend Community Schools. She worked as a health care provider for Mentor Corporation for four years. Au-drey loved sewing and gardening, and had a real passion for frogs. She was a person who always gave a helping hand to those who needed it. She also was a member of New Psalmist Church, Osceola, IN, under Pastor McKeil. Among loved ones who survive to cherish her memory are a son, Cornell Scruggs; a grand-son and two great-grandchildren; a sister and brother, Linda Walters and Bernard Foster; her life's partner, Johnnie Avance Jr., all of South Bend; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Services for Mrs. Scruggs will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010, in Alford's Mortuary to which arrangements have been en-trusted. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.
