"Chet" Sciba

SOUTH BEND - Chester "Chet" Sciba, 88, residing on
North Ironwood Road, formerly of South Tuxedo Drive in South
Bend, passed away at 6:10 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2010, in the Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. He was born October
19, 1921, in South Bend, the son of Leo and Josephine (Liska)
Sciba, and had remained a lifelong resident. Chet was a graduate
of Washington High School, and proudly served his country in the
United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS
Pennsylvania. Chet spent his working career at Schafer Gear
Works, Inc., in South Bend. On September 4, 1982, in St. Joseph
Catholic Church, South Bend, he married the former Magdelena
LeBlanc, who survives. In addition to Magdelena, Chet is survived
by nieces and nephews, Rita Wendel, Joan Copeland, Nancy Thilman,
William LeBlanc, James LeBlanc, Carolyn Harper, Rosemary Bell,
John Sciba, Jim Sciba and Alice Sciba. Chet was a member of St.
Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, Senior Softball League, Polish
National Alliance #83, Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council
#553, Chippewa Senior Bowling League and VFW Post #9820. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 13, 2010,
at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 2120 E. Jefferson Blvd.,
South Bend, IN 46617. Entombment will follow at Highland
Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family one hour
prior to Mass in church. Visitation was also held on Wednesday
from 3-7 p.m. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131
Cleveland Road, South Bend, is handling arrangements. Expressions
of sympathy on behalf of Chet may be made to the American
Cancer Society , 601 West Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
