Sister M. Lorenzo (Mary Anna Schwarzman), CSC, 97, was born in Wein, Mo., to the late Joseph and Dorothy Hagen Schwarzman on Feb. 4, 1905. Sister is survived by her sisters, Ann Reeder of Idaho, Sue Ray of California and Wilma Flaherty of Washington.
Sister entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross on Aug. 2, 1922, and made her first profession August 1925. She was trained as an elementary teacher and taught for 58 years in California schools. In Utah, Sister taught for three years at Saint Ann's Orphanage, Salt Lake City. Sister Lorenzo retired while at Saint Pius' School, Redwood City, Calif., and remained there as remedial reading teacher until she returned to Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Ind., in 1979. She was active in community services and was attentive to her sister, Sister Dorothy Mary (Schwarzman), who died May 5.
Sister Lorenzo was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
Wake services will be at 4 p.m. today, May 14, in the Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, in the Church of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
