August 19, 1923 – June 12, 1996

SOUTH BEND – Joseph S. “Joe” Schreiner, 72, of Twyckenham Drive, died at 9:40am Wednesday in Memorial Hospital.  Mr. Schreiner retired in 1987 from O’Brien Corp. after 43 years of service. 

He was born August 19, 1923, in South Bend.  On June 28, 1947, he married Gertrude E. Mikula.  She survives with three daughters, Carolyn Nowak and Jacquelyn Melser, both of South Bend, and Susan Willoughby of North Riverside IL; a son, Joseph A. of South Bend; and seven grandchildren.  A son, Anthony, died in 1953.  He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart, and he was a member of Painters Union Local 875, serving as president for 16 years.

Services will be at 10am Saturday in Christ the King Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.  Friends may call from 5 to 8pm Friday in Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road.  Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association of American Lung Association
