Melissa Ann Schrader, 20, who resided at 50870 Pine Meadow Court, Granger, Ind., passed away at the scene of a hit-and-run accident while she was a pedestrian. This happened at about 9 p.m. on Saturday night, Sept. 6, on Kline Road, south of Redfield Road, Edwardsburg, Mich. Melissa was walking on Kline Road with her girlfriend when she was struck by a vehicle that left the scene. She died at the scene.
Melissa was born July 26, 1983, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Michael and Barbara (Horvath) Schrader. Melissa graduated from Penn High School and recently completed her college at I.U.S.B. and Vogue Beauty School, where she excelled in body massages and facial massages. Melissa did body and mind therapy, to help relax the whole body. She was also employed at Osco Drugs in Granger, where she was a Kodak technician and cashier. She lived with her parents in Granger.
Melissa is survived by her parents, Michael and Barbara Schrader; and three sisters, Christina Schrader and Kimberly Schrader, both of Granger, and Jennifer (Mike) Schrader-Graham of Mishawaka, Ind. There is one brother, Michael Schrader Jr. of Granger. She has a maternal grandmother, Bertha Horvath of Mishawaka; and paternal grandparents, Ben and Dorothy Schrader of Mishawaka. There is one uncle, John Horvath of South Bend. She has a sister, Rosemary Elliott Schrader, who died Aug. 15, 2001; and a maternal grandfather, John M. Horvath, who died Feb. 5, 2000.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. (Ind. time) in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 US-12 East, Edwardsburg. Officiating will be Father David Otto, pastor of the church. Friends may call on Wednesday for one hour before the Mass in the church. Other visitation will be today, Sept. 9, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. (Ind. time) in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in the social hall. There will be a prayer service this evening at 7:30 p.m. (Ind. time) in the church. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Western Avenue, South Bend. Memorial donations may be made to the family at their home address or in care of the funeral home. The Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
