MISHAWAKA - Sister M. Gratia Schmidt, OSF, 94, of Our Lady of Angels, Saint Francis Convent, died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday in her residence.

Sister M. Gratia was born Maria Schmidt on April 16, 1900, in Eslohe, Germany. She came to the United States in 1926. She entered the convent in Germany on Nov. 3, 1922; and received her Franciscan habit on Oct. 15, 1923. She was assigned to domestic work at convents in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. Her last mission was St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, South Bend, retiring in 1985. She is survived by a nephew and several nieces in Germany.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Francis Convent Chapel. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday in the convent chapel, where wake services will be at 6:30 p.m. Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
