Kathryn M. Schmidt, 84, residing on St. Michael's Court, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 11:05 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. She was born Jan. 11, 1918, in White Pigeon, Mich., as the daughter of Herman and Alta (Grimes) Schmidt. She graduated in 1935 from White Pigeon High School, and lived in various areas of the country through the years. In 1973 she moved to the Richmond and Walla Walla, Wash., areas and returned to live in South Bend in 1986. She retired from the Continental Can Company in Three Rivers, Mich.

Kathryn is survived by her sister, Lu Hoover of South Bend; two brothers, Robert Schmidt and Richard Schmidt, both of White Pigeon; and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Baumgartner; and by three brothers, Russell, Leland and William Schmidt. Her dog, Regius, a West Highland Terrier, was her friend and companion.

Private graveside services will be Saturday, Aug. 31, at White Pigeon Township Cemetery, White Pigeon. There will be no visitation. Arrangements for the Schmidt family are being made by the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend.
