24, 1930 - Mar. 24, 2010WALKERTON - Carol "Joan" Schmeltz, 80, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010, in Hospice House, South Bend. Joan was born February 24, 1930, in Niles, MI, to David and Doris (Wells) Cogswell and lived in Walkerton most of her life. On August 20, 1949, she was married in Niles, MI, to Arthur J. Schmeltz, who survives. She is also survived by two sons, Brad (Dawn) Schmeltz and Brian (Terri) Schmeltz, both of Walkerton; six grandchildren, Ryan (Stephanie) Schmeltz, Jill (Derrick) Klinedinst, Ethan & Levi Horvath, Amanda & Michael Schmeltz. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Jack Cogswell. Joan was a member of the Walkerton United Methodist Church, former member of Walkerton Order of Eastern Star, charter member of Walkerton Tri Kappa, and a former member of the John Glenn school board. She also participated in several golf and bowling leagues. Joan was a dazzler. She loved wholeheartedly her "Artie", her "boys", and cherished her time with "the grandkids". She will always be in our hearts. Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel with Rev. Charlene Allen officiating. Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. Friends may call Saturday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 EDT, and Sunday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
