SOUTH BEND - Ronald A. Schmanke, 64, of 53141 Olive Road, died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday in his home after an illness. Mr. Schmanke retired from South Bend Street Department as general foreman after 25 years. He was born Aug. 19, 1929, in Chicago, and lived in South Bend since 1959, coming from Walkerton.
On Dec. 19, 1992, in South Bend, he married Rosemary Speeks. She survives, with a daughter, Amy Dillon of South Bend; three sons, Ronald L. and Mark W., both of South Bend, and David L. of Austin, Texas; two stepdaughters, Tamara Gore and Debbie Anderson, both of South Bend; a stepson, Tim Speeks of South Bend; two stepgrandchild; and a brother, Kenneth of Walkerton. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1167, and a veteran of the Korean War.
Memorial services will be at a later date. Cremation will take place with burial in Riverview Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Welsheimer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
