James L. Schleis

James L. Schleis, 92, of Washington Street, South Bend, died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, May 18 in the St. Joseph Care Center West. He was born on January 17, 1910 in Kortcamp, Illinois to the late Anna Westick and Mathias Schleis. Mr. Schleis was also preceded in death by a daughter, Thelma Benchick.

On December 3, 1939 in South Bend he married Pauline (Ahlgrim) Wagner who survives. Mr. Schleis is also survived by a son, James (Sue) Schleis of South Bend, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Mr. Schleis retired from the Bendix Corporation where he was a supervisor in the Automotive Division. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, South Bend. He was a Mason and was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend and the Orak Shrine.

Services and visitation for Mr. Schleis will be private. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. The Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, are handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Care Center West, 4600 W. Washington St., South Bend, Indiana, 46619.
