Alice was baptized in June 1909 in Sacred Heart Parish, South Bend IN.  Alice’s Godfather was Henry VandenBossche and her Godmother was Angel-Maria-Theresa VanWynsberghe-VanVolsem.  She made her First Communion on June 18, 1921, and her Confirmation was on June 26, 1924 in the Sacred Heart Pariah.

She died June 8, 1992, in South Bend IN.  Services were held at Corpus Christi Parish on June 11, 1992 with burial in Highland Cemetery.

She was a farmer in South Bend IN.  In 1969, at the Farmer’s Market Annual Meeting, she was recognized for having attended more market meetings than anyone else.  She was educated in public schools.  Alice went to Dunn Elementary School, a one room school near her home.  She completed an Underwood Typewriter course with 34 words per minute in 1928, completed special training in Calculating Machines and Spelling and Penmanship in 1929.

As a senior in high school, she passed a swimming life saving course, which included requirements to do surface dives which open with the removal of skirt and coat in deep water followed by a 100-yard swim.  Then came surface dives of at least eight feet to recover objects.  Various hold for dragging a drowning person to safety and methods of breaking strangle holds that have meant death to many life savers are also required.

Alice VanWynsberghe was married to Charles Alphonse Scherpereel on November 12, 1930, in South Bend IN.  The bridal party included Bertha VanWynsberghe, Arthur Scherpereel, Emma Dutrieux and Raymond VanWynsberghe.  The couple went on a honeymoon trip to Michigan City.  A large storm hampered their travel.
