Mabel Schefmeyer, 90, passed away
following a brief illness at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 4, in
her apartment at the Milton Home in South Bend, Ind. Before
moving to the Milton Home last month, Mrs. Schefmeyer had lived
six years at St. Paul's Retirement Center and previously on
Greentree Street in South Bend. Prior to that she and her family
were lifelong residents of Pearl River, N.Y. On Dec. 17, 1908,
Mabel was born to Charles and Estelle (Green) Bell in
Pearl River, N.Y. She married her childhood sweetheart, Herbert
Schefmeyer, on Aug. 19, 1933, in Pearl River. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Herbert; her sister, Hilda MacDonald;
and by a brother, Charles Ronald Bell. She was a graduate of
Pearl River High School, and worked as the executive assistant to
the president of the Shell Oil Company of North America in New
York City before leaving to start a family. She is survived by a
son, Donald H. (Karen) Schefmeyer; and by a grandson, Alec
Schefmeyer, all of South Bend.
Friends and family are invited to a
reception in her memory from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug.
11, in the Summit Club, located on the 25th floor of the former
Valley American Bank Building in downtown South Bend. Memorial
contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to
the Arthritis Foundation. The Welsheimer Funeral Home is handling
arrangements.
