Obituary: Jamie Ann Schaphorst; July 23, 1932 -- March 1, 2006

Jamie Ann Schaphorst, 73, of Mishawaka, passed away on the morning of March 1, 2006, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.

Jamie was born on July 23, 1932, in South Bend, to the late Elmer and Marjorie (Holser) Walter. On August 29, 1953, in South Bend, she married Richard A. Schaphorst, M.D., who preceded her in death on August 22, 2001.

Jamie was very active in multiple service and civic organizations throughout her life. She was named Mishawaka's Woman of the Year in 1965, and found enjoyment working with the Hospital Auxiliary, Tri Kappa, and organizations too numerous to name. She graduated from Riley High School, South Bend, and Indiana University, Bloomington, with a degree in education. Jamie had a lifelong love and talent in theatrical arts.

Jamie is survived by her three children, Richard E. (Suzanna) Schaphorst of Mishawaka, Marjorie Ann Schaphorst of Elkhart and Susan (Robert) Jacobson of Kalispell, Montana. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

There will be no funeral service, but friends are invited to join the family on Sunday, March 5th, from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, for visitation.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Civic Theater or to the American Diabetes Association.
