Philip Schafer, Sr.
Philip Schafer, sr., age 78, of five miles south of the city on the Michigan
street road in Center township, died at his home at 5 o'clock this morning
following an illness of one year with heart trouble. He was born in
Germany, Dec. 1, 1844. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Schafer, one
son, George F. Schafer, Center township, eight grandchildren and the following
brothers and sisters: George Schafer and Peter Schafer, of Center
township, Mrs. Charles Prast, of South Bend, and Mrs. Elizabeth Weiss, Arzburg,
Germany. He was married in South Bend, Aug. 22, 1872 to Miss Mary A.
Belser. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 3:30 o'clock
Thursday afternoon, Rev. M. W. Goffeney, pastor of Zion Evangelical Lutheran
church officiating. Burial will be in Palmer's Prairie cemetery.
