Nelson C. Schafer, 73, of Gotham Street, South Bend, Ind., died Thursday, Nov. 1, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Nelson was born on Nov. 21, 1927, in Lakeville, Ind., to the late Delbert and Mable Schafer.

On Aug. 23, 1950, Nelson married Julia Forrest, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Steven of South Bend and Janice (Jay) Brill of Carmel, Ind.; his grandchildren, Matt and Catherine Brill of Carmel, and Anne Schafer of South Bend; a sister, Marjorie Havermann of South Bend; and by a brother, Robert of South Bend. Nelson retired from the building and design industry.

Viewing for Nelson will be from 3 to 5:30 p.m. today, Nov. 4, in THE FOREST G. HAY FUNERAL HOME, located at Ironwood and Jefferson Drive. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, in the funeral home, with burial at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lions Club of Mishawaka or to the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church of South Bend.
