SOUTH BEND - Edith M. Scanlan, 87, of South 35th Street, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mrs. Scanlan was born Nov. 17, 1906, in Cherry, Ill., and was a lifetime South Bend resident.

On April 25, 1924, in Chicago, as Edith Varoni, she married James C. Scanlan. He survives with a son, James C. Jr. of South Bend.

She was a member of St. Anthony DePadua Catholic Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday in Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson, where a rosary will be said at 6 p.m.
