Mildred A. Sawdon, 93, formerly of
East 4th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at
11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, in the Milton Home, South Bend, Ind.
Mildred was born on June 1, 1908, in Hartford, Mich., as the
daughter of the late Daniel and Jenny (James) Stoddard.
Mildred was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Pinney;
one stepsister, Betty Nolan; and by five brothers,
Richard, Cleland, Clair, Raymond and Lyle Stoddard.
On Sept. 22, 1928, in Mishawaka, as Mildred
Stoddard, she married Wilbur Sawdon, who also preceded her on
Dec. 29, 1978, after 50 years of marriage. Mildred is survived by
two daughters, Beverly (Clarence) Pinney of Independence, Ky.,
and Marcia (Richard) Vargo of South Bend; one son, Larry
(Linda) Sawdon of South Bend; 13 grandchildren, 22
great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; one
stepsister, Dorothy Patterson of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and by a
brother, Woodrow Stoddard of Hemet, Calif. In 1916 Mildred came
to Mishawaka from Hartford. She was a postmaster in Ober, Ind.,
for seven years before retiring in 1955.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on
Wednesday, Jan. 9th, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street,
Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday,
Jan. 10th, in the Hahn Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Ternet of
Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will
follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
