WALKERTON, IN - Helen M. Savoie, 87, passed away Thursday,
May 29, 2008, in the home of her daughter in Plymouth, IN. Mrs.
Savoie was born March 22, 1921, in Brimley, MI, to Marshall and
Adelaide (Yon) Forrest, and had lived in the
Walkerton area for 65 years, coming from Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
On September 5, 1942, in Dryburg, MI, she
was married to Leo Savoie, who preceded her in death in 2002. She
was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Frances Donnelly,
and five brothers, Arnold, Lawrence, Lyle, Leo and Lincoln
Forrest, all of Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Helen was the loving mother
of five daughters and three sons, Judy (Robert) Loucks of
North Liberty, JoAnn (Dennis) Traub of Walkerton, Sharon
(Frank) Farner of Clinton, Miss., Cindy (Wayne) Capron
of Plymouth, Jill (Rod) Cross of Muncie, Lanny (Lynn)
Savoie of Newbury Park, CA, Leo (Sandy) Savoie of LaDaro Ranch,
CA, and Brian (Barbara) Savoie of Goshen. She was the loving
sister of four sisters and one brother, Marvis Wenman of
Brimley, MI, Doris (Walter) Wheatley of Hamilton, OH, Lila
(Ray) Royer of Fibre, MI, Cecelia White of Sault
Ste. Marie, MI, and Harry (Shirley) Forrest of Brimley, MI. She
was the loving grandmother of 27 grandchildren and 29
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Savoie was a member of St. Patrick's
Church of Walkerton and the Patrician Club of the Church. She was
also a member of the Walkerton American Legion Auxiliary, the Tri
Kappa of Walkerton, and she was a lifelong Democrat, serving at
the polls in Walkerton for many years. When Helen was a senior in
high school she was crowned Snow Queen of the UP of Michigan.
Helen was an avid collector of angels for love and clowns for
laughter, and she enjoyed quilting.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. (Eastern time) at St. Patrick's
Church of Walkerton, with Father J. Steele officiating. Burial
will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. Friends may call Monday
from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-10:30 a.m. Eastern Time at
Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel where a Rosary service
will be held Monday evening at 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions
may be made to St. Patrick's Church, 801 Tyler St., Walkerton, IN
46574; or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111
Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
