Therese Ann Sarah, 46, of Brookfield
Street, South Bend, Ind., died following an illness at 2:55 p.m.
on Wednesday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Therese had been
employed as a funeral director in California before moving to
South Bend. She was born on Oct. 28, 1951, to Boyce and Therese (Cosgrove)
Gowan, and had lived in South Bend since 1981, coming from
California.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Stephenson;
a son, Alfred L. Lemmon of Mishawaka, Ind.; her mother,
Therese Gowan of Enoree, S.C.; three sisters, Frances Gavin
of Seneca, S.C., Grace Redd of Spartanburg, S.C., and
Margaret Walker of Chesnee, S.C.; and by two brothers,
Boyce Gowan of Texas and James Gowan of Clemson, S.C. She was
preceded in death by a sister, Martha Combs on Nov. 24,
1990.
Therese was an avid amateur radio operator
and was affiliated with Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service
(RACES). Her call sign was N9UZK. She was also an advocate for
abused children.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m.
today in the First Christian Church, with Dr. William J. Wassner
officiating. Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory.

Street, South Bend, is in charge of arrangements.
