SOUTH BEND - Lee H. Sands, 84, passed away in his home after an illness. Lee was born on August 19, 1923, in McComb, Ohio, as the son of Lawrence and Lillian (Reed) Sands. He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter, Betty Jo Tompsett; sisters, Lou Bass and Leona Hilkert; and a brother, Clarence Sands.

On March 26, 1966, in Niles, Michigan, he married Josephine Hagye, who passed away on April 23, 2002. Surviving Lee is a stepson, Dennis (Shirley) Hagye of Mishawaka; a son, Ricky Sands of South Bend; four grandchildren, Tracy (Brian) Riddle of Mishawaka, Lesley Tompsett of South Bend, Tara Hagye of New York and Ashley Sands of South Bend; a great-granddaughter, Kiley Tompsett of Mishawaka; and a sister, Mary Lackaege of Lakeland, FL. Lee worked for L.L. Hall Moving Company for many years and 7-Up Bottling for 12 years and retired in 1988. He lived in Finley, Ohio, from 1923 to 1933, Knox from 1933 to 1944 and in South Bend since 1944. Lee was a hard-working man who enjoyed being with his family.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, February 17, in the Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka, with Rev. Erv Mize officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
