MISHAWAKA - Joseph D. Sanders, 84, of Mishawaka, passed
away Tuesday evening, April 8, 2008, in the Ironwood Health &
Rehabilitation Center, South Bend. Joe was born August 19, 1923,
in Paris, Illinois, a son of the late Judson and Dovie Ann (Crail)
Sanders. He grew up and graduated from high school in Paris. Joe
moved to the Mishawaka/South Bend area in the early 1940s. From
1943 to 1946 he served his country in the U.S. Navy during World
War II. Joe was employed at Ball Band, Studebaker, and retired
after 20 years with the Bendix Corporation. During his life he
also lived in Arizona and Florida. The center of Joe's life was
about being a Christian. He was a devout Christian who enjoyed
watching Christian television. Other favorite activities included
fishing and going out to eat. Joe had a giving and loving nature
with a good sense of humor.
Joe's surviving family includes his
daughter, Sandra Henry of South Bend; two grandchildren,
Brad Sanders and William Henry; and three great-grandchildren,
Skyler, Jamison and Brad Sanders.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday,
April 16, at 7 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral
Home, 503 W. Third Street, Mishawaka, with Pastor Rick Graves
officiating. Joe's family will receive friends on Wednesday from
6 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the
American Parkinson Disease Association. Envelopes are available
at the funeral home.
