Hugh C. Sanders
March 16, 1916 - May 7, 2001
Hugh Clinton Sanders, 85, residing
on Wilder Drive, South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully at 8:30
p.m. Monday, May 7, 2001 in the emergency room of St. Joseph Regional
Medical Center.
Mr. Sanders was born March 16, 1916,
in Logansport, Indiana, as the son of Sank and Nellie (Hoch)
Sanders, and has lived in South Bend for 68 years coming from Logansport.
On December 24, 1938, in Fulton, Indiana, he married Rachel
Coleman. She passed away on August 19, 1996. Then on September
23, 2000, in South Side Church of God, South Bend, he married
Ruth Brown who survives.
He is also survived by two sons,
Pete (Keyna) Sanders of Noblesville, IN, and Steve (Linda)
Sanders of Rochester, IN; four grandchildren, Steve Sanders,
Kristen Sanders, Mindy Kirk, and Shanda Sanders; two
great-grandchildren, Garrett Sanders and Steve Kirk; and a
sister, Ruby Mead of Logansport. Also surviving are five
step-children, Shirley Billiot of South Bend, Juanita (Ed)
Augustine of Newark, Delaware, Stanley (Connie) Green of
Wilmington, Delaware, Chere (Tom) Gunter of Niles, MI, Sheli
(Rich) Suomala of Coon Rapids, MN; thirteen step-grandchildren;
and many step-great-grandchildren, all who lived Hugh very much.
Mr. Sanders retired in 1975 from
the Bendix Corp where he served as a missile programmer.
Following retirement he was employed for several years at Cira's
Supermarket on South Michigan Street. He was a longtime member of
South Side Church of god, Bendix Union Local #9; a fifty year
member of the former South Bend Lodge #294, F & AM; and a
member of St. Joseph Lodge #45 F & AM. He served his country
as a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps during World War II and
the Korean Conflict.
Services for Hugh Sanders will be
held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 14, in South Side Church of God,
7351 U.S. 31 South. Rev. Greg D. Crump, pastor will officiate.
Entombment will follow at Riverview Mausoleum where military
rites will be conducted. The family will receive friends from 5
to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka
Avenue, South Bend where members of St. Joseph Lodge #45 F &
AM will conduct a Masonic memorial service at 7:30 p.m. in the
funeral home. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services
Monday in the church.
