10, 1944 - Feb. 27, 2010MISHAWAKA - Jerry L. "Pops" Saffold, 65, residing in Mishawaka, IN, passed away at 10:30 PM Saturday, February 27, 2010, in his home. He was employed as a Lecturer Associate for Indiana University South Bend for 10 years. Jerry was born on November 10, 1944, in Knoxville, TN, to Charles and Jenny (Whitehead) Saffold. On October 8, 1987, in Florida, he married Janet L. (Stickler) Saffold, who survives. Along with his wife, Janet Saffold, he is survived by two daughters, Lisa Lockman and Brandy (Stanley VanPelt) Saffold, both of Mishawaka; three sons, Kelly (Debbie) Clifford of Indianapolis, Scott (Pam) Clifford of Niles and Kasey Saffold of Mishawaka; six grandchildren, Joshua, Brenden, Aaron, Colton, Daniel and Samantha; one great-grandchild, Sidnee; and his sister, Evelyn (Joe) White of Phoenix. Jerry was very close to Craig Linn and his family, and to Liz Ullery, Mark Beam and John Long. Jerry loved his ever-faithful dog, "Tuko." He was a Vietnam Army veteran, having served in the 82nd Airborne. Jerry graduated from Indiana University South Bend with an associate degree in communications. He loved his Harley and enjoyed collecting knives. He loved nature and outside. Jerry was devoted and loved his family very much. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 5, 2010, in the Palmer Funeral Homes-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from noon Friday until time of services in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Jerry L.
