SOUTH BEND - Carol Vernon Ryans, 54, of Fort Meade, Fla., formerly of South Bend, died Saturday in his home. Mr. Ryans retried from the transportation department at  IMC Agrico Co., Fort Meade. He was born April 12, 1941, in Portageiville, Mo. and lived in South Bend most of his life.  On Sept. 12, 1961, in Caruthersville, Mo., he married Jossie L. Wilburn. She survives with a daughter, Tony R. Murphy of Lakeland, Fla., two sons, Steven D. and Vernon R. both of Fort Meade; four grandchildren; two sisters, Judy Giles of Lapanto, Tenn. and Jane Stills of Pocahontas, Ark; and two brothers, J. C. of South Bend and Thomas R. Elkhart. A son, Carl J., died in 1989.   Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 425 S. Ironwood Drive. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
