Charles Frederick Ruthrauff, 87,
passed away Friday, May 14, in Carondelet Hospice, Tucson, Ariz.,
after an extended illness. He had been a resident of the South
Bend, Ind., area for 30 years, retiring to Arizona in 1984.
Charles is survived by his wife of nearly 58
years, Ardie; a daughter, Edie (Fred) Greene of Brandon,
Miss.; sons, Bob (Kris) Ruthrauff of Mishawaka, Ind., Joe
Ruthrauff of South Bend, Bill (Lauren) Ruthrauff of Howell, N.J.,
and Jim (Jeannie) Ruthrauff of Granger, Ind.; and by four
grandchildren, Ashley, Alicia, Alex and Sammy Ruthrauff. The only
child of Arthur and Mary Ruthrauff, Charles was born in Chicago,
Ill., on Dec. 13, 1916.
Before and during World War II, Charles
served his country in the U. S. Army. He rose to the rank of
captain as he fought mainly in the Persian Gulf and Middle East
military operations. His service also led to duties in the Army's
African and European campaigns. After his military service,
Charles was a purchasing agent for Uniroyal in Mishawaka until he
retired in 1979.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 21, in
Our Lady of the Valley Church in Green Valley, Ariz. Interment
will be in Indiana at a later date. In lieu of flowers,
remembrances may be made to the Carondelet Hospice of Tucson, AZ
85745; or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
International, 120 Wall St., 19th Floor, New York, NY 10005.
