SOUTH BEND - Services for Janice Reed
Rugee, 86, of Rue Voltaire, who died at 5:46 p.m Thursday in
her home, will be at 10:30 a.m Monday in First Presbyterian
Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call
after services Monday in the church. Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521
S. William Street, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial
contributions may be made to Northern Indiana Historical Society
or the church.
Mrs. Rugee was a former bookstore manager at
Saint Mary's College. She was born Jan. 4, 1909, in South Bend.
On Aug. 8, 1931, in South Bend, she married Louis N. Rugee. He
died Dec. 24, 1980. Surviving are a daughter, Janice Carlson of
Wellesley, Mass.; four grandsons; and a brother, Mortimer P. Reed
Jr. of Sun City, Ariz. She was a past president of Junior League,
past president of Children's Dispensary, past president of
Women's Association of the church and secretary of the board of
Northern Indiana Historical Society. She was a member of the
auxiliary of Memorial Hosptial, South Bend Area Genealogical
Society, Scholarship Foundation of St. Joseph County and Morris
Park Country Club. She was World War II chairwoman of Red Cross
Motor Corps, treasurer of Service Men's Center and Press Club
Woman of the Year in 1952.
