SOUTH BEND - Eileen Marie Rowland, 80, of South Bend, IN, passed away December 2, 2007, with her daughter at her side. Born February 8, 1927, in Niles, MI, she was born to the late Guy Barnhart and Gladys Lewis. After her mother's death, Guy later married Mariam Barnhart, who also preceded her in death.

On June 11, 1946, she married John Rowland, who preceded her death in 1993, along with a son, John R. Rowland, in December 2004. Survivors include a daughter, Vicky L. Rowland, who took care of her in her last years; three sons, Kim L. Rowland of Albuquerque, NM, Clark L. (Julie) Rowland of Atlanta, GA, and Lane D. (France) Rowland of Oregon; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Herzel of Michigan; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Eileen worked as a manager for Walden Books until her retirement in 1989. She later operated her own stain glass business. She belonged to the First United Methodist Church, and was president of United Methodist Women and the altar guild.
