Douglas J. Roth, 70, of Edinburg Lane, South Bend, died at 2:40 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, following an illness. Mr. Roth was born Nov. 20, 1932, in New Troy, Mich., to Joseph and Apolona (Forbauer) Roth and lived most of his life in the South Bend area.
On April 23, 1955, in South Bend he married Joan M. Hestad who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Ronette C. (Vince) Vincek of St. Joseph, Mich.; three sons, Randall D. (Mary Jo) Roth of St. Joseph, Ryan K. (Sherri) Roth of St. Joseph and Rodney J. (Jennifer) Roth of Mishawaka, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Adam, Autumn, Emily, Cody and Brianna Roth and Kyle, Hunter and Grace Vincek; a sister, Shirley Goffeney of Novi, Mich. A daughter, Rhonda J. Roth preceded in death Dec. 25, 1965.
Mr. Roth retired in 1992 as the director of quality control in the aircraft brake and strut division of the Allied Signal Corp. after 35 years of service. He was a graduate of Washington Clay High School and Purdue University where he received his bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering. He was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #235, St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 3 in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Gregory Fiechtner officiating. Entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
Friends may called from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2 in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or American Cancer Society.
