SOUTH BEND - Cassell "Skeeter" Ross, 69, passed from
this natural life to eternal peace on May 4, 2010, in Memorial
Hospital Skeeter was born in South Bend, Indiana, on August 16,
1940, to the late Junior and Ethel (Mumford) Ross. Skeeter
attended Linden Elementary School. In high school Skeeter won the
state track championship in 1958. He graduated from Central High
School in 1959. He went on to attend Bethune-Cookman College on a
basketball scholarship. Skeeter worked for the South Bend
Community School Corp. as a school engineer for 43 years. He
retired in 2007. On July 24, 1997, Skeeter was married to Marve
"Sissy" Maefiel (nee: Wiley). They have a blended
family of five children. He leaves to mourn him his best friend
and partner, his wife, Sissy; three sons, Andre Ross and wife,
Rodney Ross, Calvin Maefield Jr. and wife; two daughters, Carla
Wiley and Constance Maefield; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Melvin
Ross and wife; one niece, Jacqueline Warren; two nephews, Henry
Preston and Warren Preston; and a host of nieces, great-nieces,
grandchildren great-grandchildren, nephews, cousins and friends.
The service will take place at Christ Chapel, 3402 S. Locust
Road, South Bend, Indiana. Pastor Stephen Sumrall will officiate.
The service will be held at noon on Monday, May 10, 2010, and the
viewing will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements have
been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary where messages of
bereavement may be e-mailed to Alfordsmortuary@comcast.net,
c/o the Ross family.
