Charles Joseph "Chilli" Rospopo, Sr., 89, formerly of East 9th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., died at 12:06 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 7, in St. Joseph Community Hospital. Chilli was born in Mishawaka on Dec. 30, 1910, and had lived in this area all of his life.
Mr. Rospopo retired in 1974 from Ball Band after 42 years of service. He belonged to the United Rubber Workers Union, and was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. Chilli was an avid fisherman and spent summer months in Hayward, Wis.
Chilli was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Rosa (Varodi) Rospopo; his wife, Dorothy in 1987; a daughter, Maryann Rospopo in 1949; two brothers, John and Frank Rospopo; a sister, Helen Calijure; and by a grandson, Ricky Kabel in 1972.
He is survived by a daughter, Joanne (Rospopo) Kabel of South Bend; two sons, Donald J. (Barbara) Rospopo of Elkhart, Ind., and Charles J. (Kathy) Rospopo, Jr.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and by two sisters, Julia Sumner of California and Rose Bezeredy of South Bend, Ind.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 9, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where there will be a recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 11, in St. Monica Catholic Church, with Monsignor J. W. Lester officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
