Susane Rorres, 97, of the Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, died following an illness at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, in Holy Cross. Mrs. Rorres was born on April 18, 1903, in Yeraki, Sparta, Greece, to Nicholas and Evelyn (Kanelli) Karopoulou, and had lived in South Bend, Ind., for 80 years.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her daughters, Kathryn (George) Menoutes of Flint, Mich., and Evelyn (Tom) Belanger of South Bend; a son, Nick (Rose) Rorres of Granger, Ind.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, George Rorres in 1971, and a son, Peter Rorres in 1956.
Mrs. Rorres was a member of St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church, and the Good Samaritan Club, an organization that benefited the church through various projects. She spent many hours with the ladies diligently working for the church. She worked with the Good Samaritans at the American Red Cross during World War II.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 26, in St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church, with Rev. George Konstantopoulos officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 25, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, where a Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew's Greek Orthodox Church or to the Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center.
