OSCEOLA - Hassell O. Rorie, age 86, of Osceola, passed
away at his residence at 8:35 am Wednesday, April 9, 2008 of
natural causes. Hassell was born November 27, 1921 in Mountain
View, Arkansas to the late Doss and Eveloine (Martin)
Rorie.
On December 30, 1946, Hassell was united in
marriage to the former Ms. Wilma Jones in Arkansas. Wilma
survives, along with their children, Rick (JoAnn) Rorie of
Mishawaka, and Don (Becky) Rorie of Osceola. Also surviving are 2
brothers, Eulis (Betty) Rorie of Osceola and Dalton (Frances)
Rorie of Elkhart, as well as 15 Grandchildren. Hassell was
preceded in death by his daughter, Jean White-Rorie, and his
siblings, Onis, Lyle, and Tinnie Rorie and Beulah Adams.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to
8 pm Friday, April 11, 2008 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776
McKinley Highway, Osceola, Indiana. Services will be conducted at
10:00 am Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Osceola First General
Baptist Church; 11101 E. McKinley Highway, Osceola, Indiana.
Interment will follow in Osceola Cemetery.
Hassell served his country in the Army
during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was self
employed as a barber, owning Red's Barber Shop in South Bend for
30 years before his retirement. In his spare time, Hasell enjoyed
collecting lamps and dishes, playing gospel music on the guitar
and mandolin, planting flowers and gardening as well as
woodworking and building cabinets. Hassell was a member of the
VFW Post, and the Osceola First General Baptist Church.
