SOUTH BEND - Lettie Lee Roper, 96, of South Bend, IN,
passed away after a full life on March 6, 2008, in Regency Place.
Mrs. Roper was born June 26, 1911, in Murfreesboro, TN, to Luther
and Lilly Bell Lambert. She had lived in South Bend for
over 60 years.
Mrs. Roper was preceded in death by her
husband, Burton A. Roper in 1997, and by several brothers and
sisters. She is survived by two sons, Charles A. (Kayona) Roper
of Carlsbad, CA, and B. Gerald (Rebecca) Roper of Bedford, TX, as
well as by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She
is also survived by a sister, Evelyn (Robert) Smith of
Osceola, IN; a brother, Ed (Elenora) Lackey of Conway, SC;
a brother-in-law, Lofton (Dorothy) Roper of Huntsville, AL; and
many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Roper worked for FW Means and Company
in South Bend for 30 years. Prior to that she had worked 10 years
for Rawlings (sporting goods) in Tullahoma, TN, hand-sewing
baseballs. She loved baseball and watched the "Cubs"
regularly on WGN. Mrs. Roper made beautiful, fully hand-sewn
quilts, was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years and
was a faithful woman of God. She read her Bible daily and
cherished her time with the Lord. She was very involved in her
church life and lived with the assurance and confidence that upon
her death she would go to be with her Lord and Savior in Heaven.
Visitation hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11th, with the service immediately
following at McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, located at 13260 SR 23,
Granger, IN 46530. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
