MISHAWAKA - Anibal G. "Bill" Romeu, 83, of
Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, October 9,
2008, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center of South Bend of
natural causes. Bill was born September 11, 1925, in Mishawaka,
Indiana to the late Jose and Maria (de Conception Goncalves)
Romeu. On January 24, 1948, Bill was united in marriage to his
"soul mate" Dolores J. Kucela in Mishawaka,
Indiana. Dolores survives, along with their children, David
(Donna) Romeu of Atlanta, GA, and Christine (Gerald) Schelstraete
of Osceola. Also surviving are his brother, Aruelio G.
(Glennadean) Romeu of Summerfield, FL; and four grandchildren,
Iana Tassada, Brian D. (Teri) Schelstraete, Ericka (David)
Schelstraete-Savage and Nichole (Greg) Jost. Bill
is also survived by his three great-grandchildren, Brynn and
Sophia Schelstraete and Adam Jost. He was preceded in death by
his sister, Alice G. Romeu.
Calling will be held one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. Memorial Service at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, Indiana. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Bill served his Country during World War II as a medic in the U. S. Navy. After his honorable discharge, he attended four years of training with the Department of Labor to become a Journeyman Electrician, where he earned his U.A.W. Journeyman Electrician's Card. He was employed by St. Mary's College, Rockwell International, and finally by A.M. General until his retirement in 1987. His memberships include Queen of Peace Catholic Church, The U.A.W. Local # 5 with whom he served as a Union Steward for many years, The VFW Post # 360 of Mishawaka, and the Moose Lodge #599 of Elkhart. In his younger years, Bill was a volunteer diver with the Indiana State Police. Bill was a family man. A wonderful husband to his "soul mate" of over 60 years, a loving and giving father, and an inspiration to his grandchildren. In his memory, donations may be given to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct. South Bend, Indiana 46637, or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
