WALKERTON - John E. Rohlfs, 78, of 126 Elm Drive, died at 1:58 a.m. Saturday in LaPorte Hospital after an illness. Mr. Rohlfs retired from Schultz & Burch Co., Chicago, after 38 years as a truck driver. He was born May 12, 1916, in Chicago.

In Chicago, he married La Verne Rice. She survives with a daughter, Beverly Scaletta of Carpentersville, Ill.; a son, John E. Jr. of Orland Hills, Ill.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mabel Falesnik of St. Louis Park, Minn., and Eleanor Skoese of Big Clifty, Ky.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, Fish Lake. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, Ill., with military services conducted by Fish Lake American Legion Post 400. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday in the Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte, where the parish rosary will be said at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurses Association Hospice Program.
