Donald B. Rodick III (South Bend Tribune 6/3/2003)
Oct. 27, 1977-June 1, 2003 Donald Bruce Dutch Rodick
III, 25, who resided at Bay Pointe Drive, Elkhart, Ind., passed
away at 1:32 p.m. Sunday June 1, while a patient at Lutheran
Hospital of Fort Wayne, Ind. He was waiting to be approved for a
heart transplant. Dutch was born Oct. 27, 1977, In South Bend,
Ind., the son of Judith L. Holdren and Donald B. Rodick II. His
father preceded him in death. Dutch was a 1995 graduate of
Edwardsburg High School. He is survived by his mother and
stepfather, Judy and Chuck Rymer of Granger, Ind.; his sister,
Jacqueline Borton of South Bend; and his brother, Nathan Rodick
of Elkhart. There is a niece and nephew, Kristina and Kevin
Borton. He has paternal grandparents, Donald and Betty rodick;
and maternal grandparents, Dave and Stella Holdren of Citrus
Springs, Fla. He has an uncle, Rev. David (Angie) Holdren of
Conyer, Ga., plus many friends whose lives he has touched. He
liked to counsel with others, especially children, who had health
problems. Dutch was known for his great spirit and his survival
in his battle with Ewing Sarcoma, a cancer disease that affects
the young. Although Dutch won the battle with cancer, it left him
with other health problems and he was in need of a heart
transplant. He is to be remembered for his great personality,
tremendous humor and his huge, loving heart. He was loved by all
and will be greatly missed. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to
8 p.m. (Ind. time) Wednesday in the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home,
Edwardsburg, Mich. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday
(Ind. time) in Hope United Methodist Church, 69941 Elkhart Road,
Edwardsburg. Officiating will be Rev. Jeff Reese, pastor, and
Dutchs uncle, Rev. David Holdren, a Baptist minister from
Conyer, Ga. Friends may call from one hour before services in the
church. Cremation will follow the services and burial will be at
a later date at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. There will be a
luncheon at the Edwardsburg American Legion immediately following
the services. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial
donations be made to the family, c/o the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral
