SOUTH BEND - Robert W. Roberts, 59, died of an extended illness
on Sunday, April 4, 2010, at 5:25 a.m. in his home on Brick Road,
South Bend, IN. Mr. Roberts was born November 9, 1950, in West
Lake, Washington, to Daryl W. and Margaret Jean (Hackworth)
Roberts. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army, serving
his country during the Vietnam era. He was employed for 20 years
as a machinist with Niles Precision Company and also was employed
at Sulzer & Bingham Pumps, Portland, OR. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing and playing golf. On August 17, 1991, in Scappose, OR, he
married Barbara Ann Stephenson, who survives. He is also survived
by his children, Kerri Leiting of Goshen, IN, and Guy W.
(Heather) Roberts of Niles; stepchildren, Carl (Kim) Penley Jr.
of Cape Coral, FL, Timothy A. Penley of Jackson, MI, Melody
(John) Austin of Niles, Mark (Lynn) Penley of Phoenix, AZ, and
Shane (Shirley) Penley of Niles; four grandchildren, one
great-grandchild, 14 step-grandchildren and eight
step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Larry Roberts of Greenup,
KY; sisters, Barb (Rick) Krassow, Margaret (Dale) Lewis, Doris
Roberts and Naomi (Dan) Songer, all of Niles; and mother-in-law,
Mary Richardson of Plymouth, IN. Mr. Roberts was preceded in
death by his parents; a sister, Mary B. Miltenberger; a nephew,
Michael Roberts; and by three grandchildren and a
great-grandchild. Funeral services for Robert W. Roberts will be
held at 2 p.m. today, April 7, 2010, in the Halbritter Funeral
Home, Niles, with Rev. Louie Ketchum of New Life Community
Church, Dowagiac, MI, officiating. Interment will be at Oak Ridge
Cemetery, Buchanan, and will conclude with full military honors
by American Legion Post #51, Buchanan, MI. The family will
receive relatives and friends beginning at noon today in the
funeral home. Contributions in memory of Robert W. Roberts may be
made to the donor's choice.
