SOUTH BEND - Gerald L. Ritz, 74, of Silver Lane, died about noon Sunday in his home after an illness. Mr. Ritz retired as a salesman from West Motors, Niles, after 27 years of service. He also had worked at Shamrock Ford.

He was born June 8, 1919, in Brownstown, Ind., and lived in South Bend for 43 years, coming from Indianapolis. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ritz of South Bend; two sons, George of Galveston, Texas, and James of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; a grandson; a sister, Dorothy Ryan of Rising Sun, Md.; and a brother, Robert of Brownstown. Mr. Ritz was a graduate of Butler University, Indianapolis. He was past president of the Men's Club of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and an usher at the University of Notre Dame for 25 years, working in the football stadium and Joyce Athletic and Convocation Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Cremation will take place. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
