Rev. Regis H. Riter CSC, 55, died Monday of a heart attack suffered at Holy Cross House on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. He had been a patient in the infirmary since 1959. Prior to his illness he taught for three years in the department of philosophy at Notre Dame. Born in Chanute, Kan. Nov. 7, 1906 he was ordained as a Holy Cross priest on June 24, 1933 at Notre Dame. After teaching philosophy for two years at Notre Dame he was assigned to St. Edward’s University, Austin, Texas, os head of the philosophy department, and as Prefect of Religion. In 1939-40 he studied at the Louvain in Belgium. He taught at Notre Dame from 1940-41, and at Portland University, Oregon until 1949. He was head of the philosophy deaprtment at King’s College in Pennsylvania from 1952-54. Surviving is a sister-in-law, Mrs. Leila Riter, Syracuse, N.Y.

 

Friends may call at 3 p.m. today in Corby Hall, Notre Dame. The office of the dead will be recited at 5 p.m. today. Services will be at Sacred Heart Church, Notre Dame, with Rev. Archibald M. McDowell CSC officiating. Burial will be in the Community Cemetery on the campus.
