Louis R. ''Dick'' Riley, Jr., 58, of
601 W. Center Street, North Liberty, Ind., passed away after an
extended illness at 11:25 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 6, in Memorial
Hospital, South Bend, Ind. He was a licensed electrician and
carpenter. He was born on Sept. 22, 1940, in Elkins, W. Va. He
had lived in North Liberty seven years, coming from South Bend.
He was married on April 8, 1961, in Garden
Grove, Calif., to Lela Y. Palmer, who survives. He is also
survived by nine daughters, Ronda McEnulty and Lisa Riley of
Mukilteo, Wash., Brenda DeSpain and Kathy Riley of Klamath
Falls, Ore., Carolyn Johnson and Lorraine Riley of
Raymond, Wash., Angel DeSpain of Redwood City, Calif., Rebecca Williams
of North Bend, Wash., and Jolene Manuel of North
Liberty; a sister, Sharon Sysinger of Granger, Ind.; two
half brothers, Branson Summerfield of South Bend and
Michael Summerfield of Mayie-Springs, Idaho; 25 grandchildren;
and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by
two sons, Louis G. in 1988 and Neal in 1998; and by a grandson,
Matthew DeSpain in 1991.
Mr. Riley was a U.S. Navy veteran and was
past commander of VFW Post 1954, past commander of the 3rd
district VFW, was also a member of American Legion Post 365 in
North Liberty, and 40 & 8 Voiture 1157.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept.
10, in the A.M. Manuel Funeral Home, North Liberty, officiated by
Charles Richmond, pastor of the North Liberty Church of Christ.
Burial and military graveside services will be at Eastlawn
Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, in
the funeral home.
