Maxine Ruby Riffle, 76, of Francis Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 4:30 a.m. on Friday, April 3, in Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Nov. 26, 1921, in South Bend, to Bessie (Hartzel) and Ralph Erick and was a lifelong resident.

On April 12, 1940, in Ohio, as Maxine Ruby Erick, she married Raymond Riffle, who preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 1969. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ralph Bud Erick and Robert Erick; and by a sister, Mildred Duncan.

Mrs. Riffle is survived by three daughters, Darlene Kay Holycross and her husband, Marshall of South Bend, Cindy Spillman and her husband, Paul of Osceola, Ind., and Becky Leichtman and her husband, Joe of South Bend; a son, William Riffle and his wife, B.J. of South Bend; 15 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 24 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Crawford of South Bend; and by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Riffle was a member of Community Congregational Church and AARP. She was a 1940 graduate of Washington Clay High School.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Dr. David D'Arcy of Community Congregational Church will conduct the services.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
