Charles James Riewe

SOUTH BEND - Charles James Riewe, 82, of South Bend, IN, passed away July 14, 2008, in his home. He was born June 5, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Charles Joseph and Clara (Alvers) Riewe. His family moved from Pittsburgh to Upper Darby, PA, where he graduated from high school. He later graduated from Cornell University in 1947 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

On January 31, 1975, Charles married the former Carole Olsen, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Charles Paul Riewe of South Bend, Roger Michael (Cheryl) Riewe of Granger and Donald Christopher (Bonnie) Riewe of Elkhart; a daughter, Susan Margaret Riewe of Dallas; two stepsons, Michael (Charlotte) Morris of San Diego and Stephen (Kimberly) Morris of South Bend; former wife, Margaret Riewe of South Bend; sister, Elizabeth (Thomas) Harris of Fort Mill, SC; six grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; and one niece and two nephews. Charles was a proud Navy veteran. He attended St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church for many years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or to Masonic Charities.
