Jack Leonard Rieder, 73, of Quince
Rd., died Friday, June 28 of an apparent heart attack suffered at
home. He was born on Nov. 30, 1928 in South Bend to Martha (Swartz)
and George L. Rieder.
On April 3, 1948 he married Betty Bailey.
He was a member of the United States Marine Corps., and a veteran
of World War II. He spent most of his time in China until the
communists took over. He had been employed at Yeager Motors and
Kreamo Bakery as a mechanic. He began farming (a dairy and beef
farm) in 1956 and retired in 2001. He was a member of AARP, the
Farm Bureau of St. Joseph County.
Survivors include his wife, Betty (Bailey)
Rieder; their children, Dale Rieder (Karen) of Niles, Mich., and
David Rieder (Cathy) of South Bend; grandchildren, David Rieder
of Indianapolis and Rebecca Thompson (Mike) of South Bend;
great grandchildren, Tyler Thompson and Emily Thompson; a
brother, George Rieder (Marlene) of North Liberty; and a sister,
Joyce Turner (Robert) of Hudson, Fla.; He was preceded in
death by his parents and a sister, Janis Wolfe.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in
Morning Star Funerals and Cremations, 21275 West Cleveland Road,
South Bend, where friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Burial
will take place at Chapel Hill, Osceola.
