- Sept. 28, 2008MISHAWAKA - Cleo Richter, 85, passed away early Sunday morning in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. She was born July 17, 1923, in Hazard, KY. On October 17, 1941, she married Lawrence Richter, who preceded her in death on October 11, 1995, from ALS after 54 loving years together. One of 10 children, she was the daughter of Richard and Quinten Campbell, who preceded her in death. Also, six precious siblings preceded her death: sisters, Sophia Begley and Mildred Bowling, and brothers, Walter Campbell, Green Campbell, Scovel Campbell and Perkins Campbell, all who lived in Kentucky at the time of their death. She was the best "Mom" ever. Gentle, smiling and caring - a gem of a mother to her only child, who survives her death, Linda (Richter) Bentley, and son-in-law, Bob Bentley. Cleo was a loving grandmother to her two precious surviving grandchildren, Lisa (Salem) Davis and David A. Bentley, both living in the Michiana area. One great-granddaughter, Brittany Davis, who she cherished dearly and was so proud of both grandchildren and her one and only great-granddaughter. Other survivors include sisters, Amanda Napier of Irvine, Kentucky, and Norma Jean Brown of Muncie, IN; her brother, R.C. Campbell of Richmond, KY; 24 nieces and nephews. Cleo was a faithful member of Milburn Blvd. Church of Christ and later Deer Run Church of Christ, and attended with her family every Sunday until her stroke on May 26, 2008. Cleo became a resident of Southfield Village, South Bend, following her illness. She loved everyone whom she met during her four months living at Southfield. In Cleo's younger years, she left Kentucky and moved at age 17 to Austin, IN, where she met the love of her life, Larry Richter. They, along with their only child Linda, at age 8, moved to Mishawaka where she lived until her unexpected death. She retired from Uniroyal - former "Ball Band" - where she worked on the production-line making the "Red Ball Jet" tennis shoes. She loved to garden and crochet as well as be active in her church. Cleo cherished her family and friends deeply, as well as her love for the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Friends may call during the visitation today, Sept. 30th, in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where services will be in the Bubb Funeral Chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1st, with Minister David Honeycutt of Deer Run Church of Christ conducting the funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to Deer Run Church of Christ. The family would like to thank all the "angels" who watched over her with compassionate care at Southfield Village and Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Cleo is already so very deeply missed, but all family and friends know she is with her Lord Jesus and her pain and suffering are over. The South Bend Tribune - 09/30/2008
