James M. Richey, 80, of Congress
Avenue, South Bend, died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002,
in his residence following a lengthy illness. Mr. Richey was born
Nov. 3, 1922, in Lead Hill, Ark., to the late Phil Moore and
Gladys Fae (Holt) Richey and lived in South Bend since
August 1948 coming from Lead Hill.
On Aug. 2, 1942, in Lead Hill he married
Coyita Florene "Flo" Emery who survives. Also
surviving are a daughter, Debra (Michael) Titzer of Cary,
N.C.; a son, James (Nancy) Richey of Granger, Ind.; four
grandchildren, Jared and Kristin Titzer and James (Jana Dee) and
Tricia Richey; two great-grandchildren, Camryn Schreiner
and Avery Lee Richey; two sisters, Betty (Oral) Fye of
South Bend and Kay (Carl) Caughman of Oklahoma City,
Okla.; two brothers, Charles (Donna) Richey of Shindler, Okla.,
and John Bill (Oleta) Richey of Lead Hill; a sister-in-law, Mary
Ruth Richey of Lead Hill. He was preceded in death by a sister,
Frankie Sue Hannah and a brother, Leon Richey. Mr. Richey
retired as the owner of Sunnymede Marathon Service Station in
1975. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member
of American Legion Post #50 and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #58,
both of South Bend.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, in the Clay United Methodist Church with
Rev. Charles Richey officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph
Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033
Cleveland Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Alzheimer's Association, 108 N. Main Street, Suite 707, South
Bend, IN 46601.
