SOUTH BEND - Clay E. Richards, 83, passed away on Monday,
Nov. 19 at 7:55 p.m. in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Clay was
born on November 18,1924 in South Bend to the late Gloyd and Zula
(Coil) Richards Sr. He was also preceded in death by three
sisters, Irene Felker, Blanche Borders, and Vera Wilson;
four brothers, Harry, Gloyd Jr., Donald, and Norman
"Bud"; and by his son-in-law, Robert Vaughn.
On May 15, 1948, he married Patricia
"Ann" Novotny in South Bend. She survives, along
with their children, Susan (John) Creswell, Chris
Richards, and Laurie Vaughn, all of South Bend; three
grandchildren, Scott Six, David Richards, and Amanda Creswell;
three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Clay honorably served in the United States
Army during World War II and retired from Bendix in 1981. He was
a jack-of-all-trades who would help anyone, and was a CB
enthusiast.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday,
Nov. 23, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South
Bend. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday Nov. 23 at
11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery, South Bend. Memorials for Clay may be directed to Pet
