Bernard J. Richard, 95, formerly of Davis Lake Road, Edwardsburg, Mich., died at 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22. He was born on July 25, 1901, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Aloysius W. and Mary M. (Raab) Richard, both of whom preceded him in death.
On June 3, 1924, he married the former Bertha Ferrettie in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka. She preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 1985. He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth O'Donnell of Rensselaer, Ind.; two nieces, Patricia Van Rie of Mishawaka and Margaret Ahler of Rensselaer; and three nephews, Joseph A. Richard of Mishawaka, John O'Donnell of Washington, D.C., and Patrick O'Donnell of Plymouth, Mich.
Bernard had moved to Edwardsburg from Mishawaka in 1932, and farmed his own land for 45 years. He was also a longtime supervisor of the Cass County Tax Equalization Board. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, Ind., and was a charter member and oldest living member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1878 in Mishawaka, where he was also a past Grand Knight of the organization.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Pius X Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Mishawaka.
