SOUTH BEND - Dorothy Pauline Reynolds (nee Yoder), who died
Sunday at 99, was born near Ligonier, Indiana, the daughter of
Harley Yoder and Mary Yoder (nee Renner). Following the death of
her mother in 1919, Dorothy was raised by Vernon and Addah
Kauffman and adopted by Mr. Kauffman and his second wife, Verda
Plank. Dorothy graduated from Topeka High School, Topeka,
Indiana, in 1928 and from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing
(formerly Epworth) in South Bend, Indiana, in 1932. Dorothy
married Kenneth Clayton Reynolds in 1935. She was employed
1932-1975 by Memorial Hospital and Health Systems of South Bend,
Indiana, where she served the majority of her adult life as
nursing supervisor for their Postpartum Obstetrics Department and
as nursing instructor for Memorial Hospital's School of Nursing.
The Reynolds family were members of Southlawn United Methodist
Church of South Bend. Following the death of her husband Kenneth
in 1980, Dorothy married Leroy Newton, who died in 1987. In 1990
Dorothy moved to Friendship Village, Chesterfield, Missouri,
where she lived until her death on November 8th. Dorothy was
preceded in death by her two husbands; her parents; her foster
parents; her step-mother, Delilah Yoder; her brothers, Elmo,
Chicago, Illinois, Virgil, Kenosha, Wisconsin, Paul, Chicago,
Illinois, Glenn, Myron and Loyal, who died early in life. Dorothy
is survived by her son and his wife, James A. and Jeanne Reynolds
of Town and County, Missouri; her grandchildren, Mark and Renee
Reynolds, Manhattan, NY, Sue and Todd Wright, Cleveland, OH, Dan
and Laura Reynolds, Bentonville, AK, Kara and Michael Graham,
Cincinnati, OH, Ashley Marx, Chicago, IL, and Erin Marx, Overland
Park, KS; 11 great-grandchildren; one nephew and five nieces.
