MISHAWAKA - Wilbur C. Reeves, 84, of Mishawaka, Indiana
passed away at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at
Hospice House of St. Joseph County of natural causes. Wilbur was
born May 25, 1924, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Verlie
Myers Reeves and Amy Mary (Richardson) Reeves. On January
31, 1945, Wilbur married Margaret A. Garlanger. His wife
of 63 years preceded him in death on May 2, 2008. Surviving are
his sons, Charles (Christy) Reeves of Valparaiso, Indiana, and
James Reeves of Osceola, Indiana. Wilbur is also survived by two
grandsons, Chaz and Brandon Reeves; as well as a sister, Joyce Kern
of South Bend, Indiana. Wilbur was preceded in death by three
brothers, Don, Verlie and Dick Reeves. Wilbur was a graduate of
South Bend Central High School. He served his country during
World War II in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until his honorable
discharge in 1945. During his enlisted time, Wilbur served on the
USS Monterey, participation in the Battle of the Midway. He was
employed as a department head/group leader for department 600 at
South Bend Control, a division of Koontz-Wagner, for many years
before his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing
golf, and building miniatures. He and his wife Margaret were
members of the Miniatures Club of Elkhart, and built a completely
functional miniature home which is currently on display at the
museum in St. Joseph, Michigan. Along with his hobbies, Wilbur
was also a member of the Retiree's Club of South Bend Control.
There will be no visitation, and services will be private. In his memory, contributions may be given to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, Indiana 46635.
