SOUTH BEND - Thomas E. Reed, 69, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008, in his home. In 1963 he founded Allied Construction Company, Inc. He was born on December 5, 1938, in South Bend, IN, to Thomas E. and Angela (Strauss) Reed, and was a lifelong resident.

On August 6, 1960, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, South Bend, IN, he married Sandra L. (Brecht) Reed, who survives. Along with his wife, Sandra Reed, he is survived by four sons, Thomas E. Reed III of Troy, MI, Christopher J. (Nora A.) Reed of Mishawaka, Kevin Patrick Reed and Robert "Randy" Reed, both of South Bend; three grandchildren, Kiersten, Madison and Carson; and two brothers, John (Carolyn) Reed of South Bend and Michael (Patricia) Reed of Bonita Springs, FL. Mr. Reed attended both the University of Notre Dame and Indiana University where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega National Fraternity. He was a past member of the South Bend Lions Club, Michiana Steelheaders, the Western Avenue Businessmen's Association, and was a charter member of the South Bend Snowmobile Club.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. today in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Thomas E. Reed may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
